On March 26, 2026, the 7th Industry Workshop of the Chiplet Center of Excellence (CCoE) was held at Fraunhofer IIS in Dresden. The workshop brought together numerous partners from the automotive electronics supply chain to discuss the latest developments, initial results, and future opportunities for collaboration in the field of chiplet technologies.

Here, the focus was on the Chiplet Center of Excellence (CCoE) itself – a centralized, precompetitive research and development platform from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft that brings together industry and research in a targeted manner. The CCoE aims to consider chiplet-based systems holistically and to get them ready for industrial applications – from the architecture and design to integration, testing, and scalable applications.

By doing so, the CCoE is addressing one of the key technological revolutions in microelectronics: the transition from monolithic chips to modular, flexible, and economically scalable system architectures. This is why we work hand-in-hand with industry partners – because the successful implementation of chiplet technologies calls for tailored solutions across the entire value chain.

The workshop offered specific insights into ongoing work at the CCoE, including new use cases from the automotive and defense sectors as well as initial ideas for applications in other industries. Findings from recent months were set out in tangible form and jointly further developed as part of interactive demo and poster sessions. This provided a particularly valuable opportunity for direct discussions between experts in design, packaging, testing, and application.

Rather than a simple research project, the CCoE sees itself as an active collaboration platform with a clear focus on implementation. In collaboration with partners, it produces robust design methods, reference architectures, and workflows that significantly shorten the path to industrially applicable chiplet solutions as well as mitigating risks at an early stage.

The next steps have already been defined: approaches to turning use cases into business cases, additional areas of application beyond the automotive sector, and expanded cooperation formats within the growing network.
