The aim of the demo production environment at Fraunhofer IIS is to accelerate technology transfer while creating an innovative space for businesses and industry. Practical demonstrations showcase our research findings in the area of artificial intelligence (AI) and production in a clear and tangible form – facilitating faster and more effective knowledge transfer to companies. As a showroom for the results of various research products, the demo production environment allows users to experience digital innovations through AI and automation directly. This is particularly beneficial to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), for which the transition to digitalization and AI methods often presents a major challenge.

The demo production environment is available to companies of all sizes and sectors, with a thematic focus on SMEs in the manufacturing industry.

What can be done in the lab?

The lab offers a practical demonstration of how specific production problems are solved by digitalization with AI. It also serves as a source of inspiration, as well as allowing you to test technologies live and explore solutions to your own specific needs using our hardware.

Five stations allow you to run through a real-life production workflow:

• Smart sensors and Edge AI – greater resilience and lower costs thanks to intelligent condition monitoring of machines
• Optical quality control – spot errors at an early stage and reduce the number of rejects thanks to AI-driven image processing
• Robotic assembly – flexible use of automation, with robots from various manufacturers
• Robust wireless communication – AI-driven time series analysis and pattern recognition identify causes of failures and faults in industrial wireless communication
• Digital twin – generate added value from data silos and network and utilize production data intelligently

Each station demonstrates how AI boosts your efficiency or prevents failures – from error prevention to intelligent networking.
