At the Lab for Adaptive Robotics, a team of 13 developers are working to teach industrial skills to collaborative robots – independently of specific robot manufacturers

Who can use the equipment of the lab for adaptive robotics?

Industrial companies with their own production facilities, system integrators, start-ups in the field of robotics and automation, research facilities, higher education institutions, and universities

What can the test center for the automation of complex assembly tasks be used for?

As well as experimental environments and engineering services for the development of flexible automation solutions, the Lab for Adaptive Robotics also offers companies and researchers a test environment that allows them to develop, test, and optimize adaptive robotic systems. The focus is on applications in which classical, rigidly programmed robots come up against their limits.

The Lab provides the basis for setting up and testing sensor-based AI robotics solutions for assembling complex subsystems in realistic conditions. It is used to develop robotic systems that can handle uncertainties such as manufacturing tolerances, position deviations, and unstructured environments. The aim is to create machines with “finesse” – robots that work not only precisely but also in an adaptable and robust manner.

The test platform is also open to cooperation partners for the evaluation of adaptive automation technologies, integration into existing processes, and the characterization and validation of intelligent motion strategies.

Key fields of application for the laboratory for adaptive robotics

  • Automated assembly of complex and wide-ranging subsystems
  • Development and testing of AI-supported robot controllers for flexible manufacturing
  • Integration and testing of sensor and adaptive systems in realistic production conditions
  • Validation and optimization of robotic systems with respect to the handling of uncertainties and manufacturing tolerances
  • Training and demonstration of innovative automation solutions for industry partners
