In our series #Faces, we introduce you to the people at our division. What drives our employees to carry out research for the world of tomorrow on a daily basis? Konstantin Wrede, who has been working as a research assistant at the Engineering of Adaptive Systems division of Fraunhofer IIS for the last two years, answers our questions in this short interview.

Who are you and how long have you been working at the Dresden division of Fraunhofer IIS?

I’m Konstantin Wrede. I studied electrical engineering, specializing in control technology and robotics, at TU Dresden and have been at Fraunhofer IIS since 2020 – first as a student and now, since 2023, as a research assistant.

What subjects do you work on at the division?

I deal with training methods for the robust and secure transfer of fine motor movement models from simulation to real robots. I also carry out research into the learning-based control of building energy systems.

What do you find most exciting about your work?

The enormous variety in the technical work on simulators and in the lab, in the (creative) work involved in writing papers, in conference attendances and, especially, in the opportunities that conferences provide to exchange ideas with scientists from wide-ranging backgrounds.

Is there anything else you’d like to say about your work?

Our division has a great mix of young and experienced colleagues, a helpful and friendly working atmosphere, and – with robotics, physical data analysis, and quantum communication – some of the hottest current topics of research.
