Project KIKiS: Artificial Intelligence – Expertise and Innovation Potential in Saxony

Innovators from industry and research in Saxony already possess a great deal of know-how and specialist knowledge in many domains of artificial intelligence (AI). Nevertheless, this field still holds numerous new opportunities and challenges for Saxony as a business hub. The project “Artificial Intelligence – Expertise and Innovation Potential in Saxony” (KIKiS) was launched with the aim of fully exploiting the innovation potential in this area while boosting the competitiveness of companies and fostering connections between them. The project goals include identifying potential and strengths, pooling individual activities, and developing recommendations for action.

Who is involved in the project?

Fraunhofer IIS/EAS and Dresden University of Technology are assessing needs and requirements for the development and deployment of AI in companies, with support from Saxony’s State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport. A key element of the project consists in identifying ways to make the transfer of technological knowledge and provision of existing technologies to companies quick and effective.

What are the components of the project?

AI study

In the period up to mid-2019, AI-related activities in Saxony are to be evaluated and described in a comprehensive study on the status quo of research and industry in the state.

Expert interviews and an online survey will shed light on current and future needs and requirements on the part of industry to identify areas requiring action for economic development, draw up specific proposals for activities, and optimally gauge innovation potential.

Knowledge transfer and networking

In light of the fragmented nature of Saxony‘s business landscape, there is a clear need to pool existing activities, resources, and expertise in order to build a solid portfolio of AI products and services.

To this end, the project will promote networking and knowledge transfer among the various relevant entities in Saxony. This includes identifying initial concrete cooperation projects in the field of AI. Another goal is to draw up recommendations for action in the interaction between politics, industry, and research.

"KI4me" roadshow

The roadshow is a platform for exchange created to encourage the various entities involved to engage in joint projects, with the aim of facilitating the transfer of AI knowledge from research to industry. The format is also ideal for companies not yet active in the field of AI that are interested in assessing potential opportunities or establishing effective collaborations.

Roadshow Stops in 2019:

  • June 18, 2019 Dresden: »Silicon Saxony Day
